Background information

The school was provided by the Church of England in 1871 and moved to new premises in 1963. It was originally open to infants and juniors, but the infants were transferred to new county premises in 1970, when increasing numbers necessitated the building of additional accommodation. The junior school now admits mixed juniors between the ages of 7 and 11. The very spacious building comprises eight classrooms (one of which is used for the school library and one for ICT) and a very large hall. There is the usual office accommodation, and good playground and playing field facilities.

Classes are organised according to age, which with six classes and four year groups inevitably involves most classes containing children from more than one school year. There is good liaison with both the Infants School and the Anglo-European Comprehensive School, as we seek to provide a smooth transition for pupils across the infant/junior and junior/secondary divides.

The school enjoys strong links with the parish churches of Ingatestone and Fryerning, and the minister is a regular visitor to the school, frequently taking assemblies. The school's R.E. syllabus is in accordance with that recommended by the Religious Education Executive of the Chelmsford Diocesan Education Committee. Parents can withdraw their children from school assemblies for religious reasons if they so wish.
